The latest Carbon Majors report created by InfluenceMap leaves no illusions: global carbon dioxide emissions from 2016-2022 were mainly the result of the activity of only 57 fossil fuels and cement producers. It is worth noting that these 57 companies represent only a small part of the global number of companies, which underlines the importance of their actions in shaping the future of our planet.
The list is headed by such giants as Saudi Aramco, Gazprom and Coal India. Their impact on carbon dioxide emissions is enormous and it is not possible to ignore the fact that they must bear responsibility for the consequences of their activities. 🌍🔥📉
If they do not take immediate action to reduce emissions, we can expect catastrophic effects on the environment, human health and climate worldwide 🛑❗
But should responsibility rest solely on the shoulders of these companies?
The countries in which these companies operate are also obliged to act. After all, it is their regulatory and supervisory role that has a huge impact on how these companies do their business.
📝🌿
Our governments must act quickly and firmly to create a regulatory environment that will encourage businesses to invest in renewable energy sources, environmentally friendly technologies and sustainable production practices.
What do you think should be the consequences for companies that do not reduce carbon footprint emissions and the countries where this is happening?
